129: Antonio Toocool sits on my deck

I've been trying to find a time to get DJ Antonio Toocool to sit down for an interview; it finally came together last night.

[20:07] Rusty Redfield: *click* And we're on.  Welcome to my friend Antonio Toocool, who has kindly agreed to do an interview
[20:08] Rusty Redfield: Thanks for coming by!
[20:08] Antonio Toocool: hi Rusty thanks for inviting me to your place and your blog, im actually a fan of your blog! so its a great pleasure
[20:08] Rusty Redfield: oh! really? that's great! Thanks, that's always great to hear.
[20:08] Rusty Redfield: well, then, you
know the deal
[20:09] Rusty Redfield: I always ask the same questions -- laziest interviewer since Barbara Walters <laughing>
[20:09] Antonio Toocool: ahaha its ok you can ask me anything
[20:09] Rusty Redfield: but, folks, I met Antonio when I went to a club one night and heard the best house music I'd heard in SL, so I started going to his
gigs -- and we became friends
[20:10] Rusty Redfield: so I'm hoping to hear about your house music philosophy! hahaha
[20:10] Antonio Toocool: yes true we met at Weylins place one night... my house philosophy? just a mix of soul electro and grooves ahah
[20:10] Rusty Redfield: that's right -- was it a lycan bar?
[20:11] Antonio Toocool: yes Lycan Moon, Weylin's place [Weylin Vale] where we throw parties
[20:11] Rusty Redfield: there you go.  So I kept going back. And then I learned the incredible coincidence that you have the same house as me and Alex
[20:12] Rusty Redfield: LOL I pretend we're like a block away in the same part of Brooklyn LOL
[20:12] Antonio Toocool: lol that was funny... when you guys landed at my place and you were in same place kinda ahah
[20:12] Rusty Redfield: yeah, amazing.
[20:12] Antonio Toocool: yes lol lets pretend we are neighbors
[20:12] Rusty Redfield: but this is a terrible neighbourhood ROFL -- the adult bookstore and all
[20:12] Rusty Redfield: haha
[20:13] Antonio Toocool: ahahahah too bad there isnt a records store
[20:13] Rusty Redfield: you should put one in!
[20:14] Rusty Redfield: there's an empty building over there <laughing>
[20:14] Antonio Toocool: but you know actually i order my records in rl from a shop in brooklyn and they ship to me
[20:14] Rusty Redfield: wow
[20:14] Rusty Redfield: well, that's what I want to hear about, but my OCD wants me to ask the questions in order <smiling>
[20:14] Rusty Redfield: so let me get you started with #1
[20:14] Antonio Toocool: ok lol
[20:14] Rusty Redfield: 1.  Why do you stay in Second Life?  What keeps you
[20:16] Antonio Toocool: ok , many things. When i joined sl i was attracted by the playfull side of having a avatar and to make it over, decorate his house... thats cause im a dolls collector in rl.. i have more than 1000 barbie dolls lol
[20:16] Antonio Toocool: but then i discovered music
[20:16] Rusty Redfield: wow
[20:16] Rusty Redfield: 1000 barbie dolls
[20:16] Rusty Redfield: okay, I think I get the "dressing up" part
[20:16] Antonio Toocool: lol dont get me started on that
[20:17] Antonio Toocool: then the music, most of all
[20:17] Rusty Redfield: right
[20:17] Rusty Redfield: you are always
doing something with music whenever I see you, bringing it here
[20:17] Antonio Toocool: i started djing in clubs in 93 till 200, then i stopped and was working in radios, then on web radios
[20:17] Antonio Toocool: 2000*
[20:18] Antonio Toocool: when i discovered that in sl i could stream my music live i was amazed
[20:18] Rusty Redfield: so this is a more fun way for you to DJ than in real life?
[20:19] Antonio Toocool: well if i dj in bars or clubs in rl is different, but in sl there is this interaction that is very cool
[20:19] Rusty Redfield: so a different kind of fun
[20:19] Rusty Redfield: not better or worse
[20:19] Rusty Redfield: interesting
[20:20] Antonio Toocool: yes and i can smoke while i mix lol
[20:20] Antonio Toocool: in sl
[20:20] Rusty Redfield: there are no good house clubs where I currently live, so I'm grateful you're here!
[20:20] Antonio Toocool: thank you:)
[20:20] Rusty Redfield: 2. What are the qualities that attract you to people in Second Life?
[20:20] Antonio Toocool: sense of humor!
[20:20] Antonio Toocool: it seduces me
[20:21] Rusty Redfield: <smiling>
[20:21] Rusty Redfield: I know what you mean
[20:21] Antonio Toocool: i think that only intelligent people have sense of humor
[20:21] Antonio Toocool: it attracts me too in rl
[20:21] Rusty Redfield: fair enough
[20:21] Antonio Toocool: smiles back:)
[20:21] Rusty Redfield: how do you know a sense of humour when you see it in others?
[20:22] Rusty Redfield: sometimes I see people and know they have a good sense by the way they dress
[20:22] Rusty Redfield: like, not too seriously fashionable LOL
[20:22] Antonio Toocool: when it makes me laugh about things i shouldnt be laughing, i think its a critical approach to life to society, too in a game
[20:22] Rusty Redfield: oh, well put.  I like that.
[20:22] Antonio Toocool: ahah ty
[20:23] Rusty Redfield: okay, now the big one LOL
[20:23] Rusty Redfield: 3. What are you working on, as a form of artistic expression or in order to earn money, or both?
[20:24] Antonio Toocool: my only work that i get payed, is performing as dj, but i only get tips so i try to give the best as performance, isnt about money but sometimes tipping shows people interest
[20:24] Rusty Redfield: I think of it as applause
[20:25] Antonio Toocool: yes me too:) right
[20:25] Rusty Redfield: I wish more people did, for your benefit
[20:25] Antonio Toocool: but i like to do other stuff besides djing, like taking pictures and lately making movies
[20:25] Rusty Redfield: making movies?
[20:26] Rusty Redfield: <smiling> I've been wondering how to do that here but I'm still mastering the still camera and have a long way to go
[20:27] Antonio Toocool: ohh i can tell you what i use  is pretty basic but few tricks and ideas make it good: i use Ocam software for filming, is a free one.. and Movie maker to edit
[20:27] Rusty Redfield: what are your movies about?
[20:28] Antonio Toocool: i made 2 so far, both are pretty erotic... the first is about me evoking a demon and making love with him lol
[20:28] Rusty Redfield: sounds interesting, and it sounds like the kind of thing that is easier to do in SL than in RL
[20:28] Antonio Toocool: i posted it on xtube and it got 1600 views so far
[20:28] Rusty Redfield: if you give me the URL, I'll put it in
[20:28] Antonio Toocool: ahaha yes indeed special effects are cheaper in sl
[20:29] Antonio Toocool: sure its here :
[20:29] Rusty Redfield: I'm thinking it's NSFW, by the way, folks, so don't just whang this on your laptop in the middle of the sales meeting
[20:29] Rusty Redfield: <laughing>
[20:30] Antonio Toocool: ahahah yes be careful
[20:30] Rusty Redfield: and the other one?
[20:31] Antonio Toocool: the other one is more like a music video, its inspired by a remake of a david Bowie song "boys keeps swinging".. remade by a gay group Hirsute Pursuit, and it shows me dancing around in all dirty places on sl ahaha
[20:31] Rusty Redfield: nice!
[20:32] Antonio Toocool: this is the link
[20:32] Rusty Redfield: and where can we see that one, please?
[20:32] Rusty Redfield: perfect
[20:32] Antonio Toocool: :D
[20:32] Rusty Redfield: but before we leave this question, I need to know when you are DJing in SL -- do you have any regular gigs?
[20:33] Antonio Toocool: yes usually the monday i play at Brooke Hill place, usually at 1pm sl... Fridays we are back with Weylin at Lycan moon at 8pm sl, sundays at club Karma at 8 pm sl.. plus i do other places but not fixed
[20:34] Rusty Redfield: gotcha.  is there a channel you use to let people know where you'll be playing?
[20:34] Rusty Redfield: like "GAY CLUBS IN SL" or some group feed like that?
[20:35] Antonio Toocool: ok i tell you, i didnt want have a dj group, so usually i just make a conference chat in my friendlist and yes i post in GAY LIST group usually
[20:35] Rusty Redfield: perfect.
[20:35] Rusty Redfield: great!
[20:35] Antonio Toocool: smiles:)
[20:35] Rusty Redfield: Oh, and one thing I think we need to share
[20:36] Rusty Redfield: I've heard you say more than once you play everything direct from vinyl records, am I right?
[20:36] Antonio Toocool: yes true
[20:36] Rusty Redfield: love that
[20:36] Antonio Toocool: i collect vinyl records and dolls lol
[20:37] Rusty Redfield: wow I can imagine, you'lre going to have to have your floors reinforced LOL
[20:37] Antonio Toocool: i buy new and old, just today got a bunch of old freestyle records from flea market
[20:37] Antonio Toocool: lol the ikea shelves work great
[20:37] Rusty Redfield: yep
[20:37] Rusty Redfield: well, I peeked at your profile and you've been here 5+ years -- so I will like to hear this answer I bet
[20:37] Rusty Redfield: 4. If you could give advice to your earlier self in the first month that you spent in Second Life, what would you say?
[20:39] Antonio Toocool: to be less stressed, omg in past i was all time worrying i didnt reply too soon to a message, or not taking a tp, or decide if take this or that tp it was stressing me
[20:39] Antonio Toocool: you know tae things less seriously
[20:39] Rusty Redfield: yep yep
[20:39] Antonio Toocool: take*
[20:39] Rusty Redfield: it's your second life, people, you are allowed to relax during it ROFL
[20:40] Rusty Redfield: now the next question I ask I'm still tinkering with a little
[20:40] Antonio Toocool: yes lol thats why now my profile picts saying : im not always there when you call me but im always online LOL
[20:40] Rusty Redfield: ah yes in this day of instant access
[20:41] Rusty Redfield: it infuraites people when you're not immediately THERE, god I hate that
[20:41] Antonio Toocool: yes ahahaha
[20:41] Rusty Redfield: so here's a new version of this question, I'm still trying to figure out how to ask it properly
[20:41] Rusty Redfield: 5. What makes you think, "Oh, that's an attractive avatar"?
[20:42] Rusty Redfield: <grin> I'm still not happy with that question
[20:42] Antonio Toocool: its easier to say what i dont like in some avatars ahah
[20:42] Rusty Redfield: go for it
[20:42] Rusty Redfield: this is kind of for newbies
[20:42] Rusty Redfield: to get an idea of what longer-term residents think
[20:42] Antonio Toocool: ok lol... i hope i dont make enemies but its my personal estetic point of view
[20:43] Rusty Redfield: exaclty! You're not answering for everyone, just for you
[20:43] Antonio Toocool: i dont like mesh avatars, i think they look all same, i dont like men with full body tattoes and mohawk, i dont like the hipster look with long beard lol
[20:44] Antonio Toocool: i love gingers ! i think are so sexy in rl too
[20:44] Rusty Redfield: so -- hmm.  You like avs that look like individuals? Is that fair?
[20:44] Antonio Toocool: yes i like normal looks
[20:44] Antonio Toocool: jeans tshirt bit of muscles
[20:44] Rusty Redfield: ah yes, what I call the "real person look"
[20:45] Rusty Redfield: the mesh bodies are amazing but you're right, they kind of look all the same right now.
[20:45] Rusty Redfield: The designers are still learning their way, I think.  Like many new SL technologies
[20:45] Antonio Toocool: i think we still need to wait for creators to bring out many of them
[20:46] Rusty Redfield: yeah, don't get me wrong, I lived in l'Uomo for more than a year, but ... I like the "real person look" too.
[20:46] Rusty Redfield: almost done ... two more.
[20:46] Antonio Toocool: yes and many went from lUomo to the mesh project ones ahah
[20:47] Antonio Toocool: ok:)
[20:47] Rusty Redfield: honestly, one big thing for me is having access to most of the clothes that are made.
[20:47] Antonio Toocool: YES!!
[20:47] Rusty Redfield: l'Uomo bodies are wonderful, but the wardrobes are so limited.
[20:47] Antonio Toocool: i know and is like wearing old layer clothes
[20:47] Rusty Redfield: everyone looks like an off-duty stripper ROFL
[20:47] Antonio Toocool: lmao yes
[20:48] Rusty Redfield: Okay.  here's an easy one.
[20:48] Rusty Redfield: 6. What’s your favourite place to spend time in Second Life?
[20:48] Antonio Toocool: ok
[20:49] Antonio Toocool: ohh i love to hang at Anaconda club, its a black music club, gorup access, it has wonderful djs that play rnb and rap funky music. its a straight club. i remember first time i went alone i was the only one white and gay and i was worried, and now i have many friends there, djs and clubbers. and its refreshing to me cause isnt the music i play but i love it
[20:50] Rusty Redfield: perfect! So you get right out of your regular orbit.  That's very useful, isn't it? A different perspective.
[20:51] Antonio Toocool: ohh yes i try to never stick to gay places also cause most of times i dont like the music is too pop for me lol
[20:51] Rusty Redfield: yeah, I hear you.  I have a car radio for that.
[20:51] Antonio Toocool: yes ahaha
[20:51] Rusty Redfield: okay, one last question, and this one I'm testing out, so -- let's see what happens.
[20:51] Rusty Redfield: 7. What are your favourite games?
[20:52] Antonio Toocool: besides sl?
[20:52] Rusty Redfield: LOL well, I'm not even sure SL is a game
[20:53] Antonio Toocool: i played all the assassins creed, i loved tomb raider, and one that really love is called JUST CAUSE2... its a open world and you are a guy thet needs make missions shooting , all on playstation
[20:53] Rusty Redfield: oh I love open world ones
[20:53] Rusty Redfield: I'm always so bad, I just go explore ROFL
[20:54] Antonio Toocool: yesss and i dont like first persons games make me dizzy
[20:54] Antonio Toocool: lol you are so nice
[20:54] Rusty Redfield: yeah I'm not much on killing things in games LOL
[20:54] Rusty Redfield: except if I've had a really bad day, then LOOK OUT ZOMBIES hahahaha
[20:55] Antonio Toocool: lmao me in GTA V.. tried the multiplayer and there was a mission where me and a guy need steal cars and race, and i sat in the car with this guy instead to steal another one, and he shot me lol
[20:55] Rusty Redfield: <laughing>
[20:55] Antonio Toocool: that ended my attempt to multiplayer
[20:55] Antonio Toocool: im too slow
[20:55] Rusty Redfield: OMG yeah, I get yelled at
[20:56] Rusty Redfield: I just have "no sense of mission", I was told hahaha
[20:56] Antonio Toocool: yes lmao me too
[20:56] Antonio Toocool: ahahahaha
[20:56] Rusty Redfield: there we go.  More than just houses the same haha
[20:56] Antonio Toocool: yes hi5!
[20:56] Rusty Redfield: <hi5>
[20:57] Rusty Redfield: So just about done.  I always give people the chance to say anything they want at the end.  Philosophy, rant, commentary, whatever you like.  Maybe give some good advice.
[20:59] Antonio Toocool: I dont know really what to say i just hope that everybody in sl becomes more individual less following trends or gurus, more open minded less serious and more critical. we have lots of opportunities and its a shame to stick to models and follow them blindly
[21:00] Rusty Redfield: that's pretty good, I think.  We DO have lots of opportunities here.
[21:00] Rusty Redfield: I like the three main SL occupations, dancing, shopping, and fucking, but I know I have more fun when I do more than those things
[21:01] Antonio Toocool: yes lol like me lately acting is straight porn movies lmao.. wont give you links tho lol
[21:01] Rusty Redfield: ho ho! see what happens when you stretch your boundaries a little <smiling>
[21:01] Antonio Toocool: its fun, i liem challenges
[21:01] Antonio Toocool: like*
[21:02] Rusty Redfield: well, thanks Antonio for coming by. I appreciate your taking the time.
[21:02] Rusty Redfield: I hope people come and see you at your regular sets -- if you want to hear good house that is
[21:02] Antonio Toocool: was very nice to chat with you Rusty!
[21:02] Rusty Redfield: my pleasure!

[21:02] Rusty Redfield: now, where's that damn *click*

As you can tell we were having a great time yacking away! Definitely check out Antonio when he's behind the decks some night soon, I think you'll enjoy his music.

128: JJ Goodman's show opens at Holtwaye Gallery

This afternoon was the opening of a show of excellent portraiture by well-known photographer JJ Goodman -- everyone was there. And when I say everyone ... well, my private rule of thumb is, if there are enough people on the sim to crash my system, it's a good party. If I crash more than once, it's a great party. Judging by that, this was the party of the decade: I crashed eight times. I think part of that was that my system was overloaded by the fantastic voice of Samm Qendra, who gave an awesome and very personal performance. But part of it might have been just an amazing number of great-looking avs. It's my new standard for
The amazing vocal talent of Samm Qendra opened the show
most crashes in a single hour.
Eight crashes means I have to apologize, because I didn't even come near to documenting everyone who was there. I couldn't manage to get Samm in performance mode, sorry to say, but I did catch a snap after she finished. There are a couple of personal friends for whom I'm going to have to do the SL equivalent of buying

them an apologetic drink, because I just couldn't manage to snap them looking so good ...
I know the exhibit will be up for some time and you should definitely see it. JJ specializes in portraiture and he's taken a few amazing pictures of me over time at various events; he knows how to capture personality in a casual way and make the av seem very immediate. I
