192: Brokeback Skybox

Like so many of my inspirations these days, this one came from my Snap... Do It! photo group on Facebook.  One of the challenges for early March was to be photographically inspired by a movie, and I just happened to pick Brokeback Mountain. Not a huge favourite of mine (too sad!) but a powerful movie nevertheless.

  Some of the best pictures I got, the stupid sit pose had Alex's hand going through his knee.  Oh well.  What can't be cured must be endured, as they say.  I've included a couple of the reference photos from the film just to show you what I was trying for.

The Snap ... Do It! Facebook challenge included "Keyhole -- through something" and I had some fun with different lighting for the same shot, using some of the more unusual Windlight presets.  See what you think.

190: Front door of the trailer

  The other night Alex Thaub graciously sat around for quite a while while I fussed around getting a photograph together. He's really good that way; very patient, which is a good quality for a model. The photograph was on behalf of a suggested topic from my FB photo group -- "Front door". Well, this is the front door of our new trailer. Apparently it's where we go to indulge our trashy instincts ;-) It took a while to get enough little detail into the picture to suit me (like that hilarious doormat); then the problem reduced to fooling around with the lighting. I need more experience with that. But this was a fun one to do.  Thanks as always, Alex!

185: Photo Challenge -- "Mornings"

Alex and I have been having a lot of fun with the photo challenges presented as part of a Facebook group called Snap... Do it!  They present a list of topics, we get inspired and go and start taking photographs to illustrate the theme.
  Last night the moderators published a new list and of course inspiration came thick and fast. I'll be posting my pictures grouped by theme, rather than everything I did in an

evening. We actually worked on a couple of themes last night but this one was the most fun for me, because I enjoy taking chances with not looking good LOL. As usual, I try to use the minimum of poses and get as much mileage as I can out of my AO (the large picture at the top of this post was from my "face emotion" app, which apparently comes with hand positions; I was trying to show myself yawning). One of the most interesting parts for me is to try to find props and/or locations that illustrate the theme.

Subtlety is important! Lighting, composition, concept ... I'm learning more about how to take pictures all the time, and the thematic challenges help. If you're interested, and you're on Facebook, you can apply to join Snap... Do it! and have some fun.
